1. Research the market and analyze the possibilities of your business

Do not go crazy and before embarking on the adventure know well the market in which your project moves. Each sector is a world and business does not work the same in every country or city. Maybe if you sell online your activity crosses borders, but if what you offer is a service or a physical business, your work will be developed in a local environment.

Establish the strengths and weaknesses of your business: what you can improve and what makes you stronger or different from the rest. You should also know the threats you may encounter, if you could overcome them and the opportunities that the environment offers you. SWOT analysis is a basic element for launching a company.

Analyze how your direct competition works, don’t just look at the big brands. Being clear about which competitors you move in can be revealing so a good benchmarking study can be key for you.

2. Create a marketing strategy

Your marketing strategy must be aligned with your objectives. Establish where your target audience is and define your personal buyer, what your channels of dissemination will be, how and how often you will create content on your blog, the intention of the same (they will be focused on direct sales, will provide value -inbound marketing-), how your competition does it.

If you are a bit lost, we can help you with this complete online marketing manual. But if your business is not exclusively online, you should think about how to use marketing strategies to attract customers (discounts, gifts, sampling, custom packaging, etc).

3. Choose a domain name for your business

Remember what we talked about before about the importance of choosing a name that includes a keyword? Now you know why. You will need a website that gives you online visibility, if your name and domain include that magic word you will have some extra points. Even if you don’t have a website yet, you should buy the domain name. Just because you register a company name when you incorporate it does not mean that that name is also reserved in the online world.

Bear in mind where you are going to develop your project, it is not the same to put .es, that .com or .mex. The ending of the domain name indicates the country of location, so it is advisable to put .com.

A domain name costs between 5 and 15 euros, depending on where you buy it. In addition, if you want to save costs, you can train with a WordPress course and create your own website. This way, it will not be necessary to hire an external person and, apart from the design, you will be able to carry out the maintenance tasks of it.

4. Hire a hosting company to host your website

The hosting is the server where your company’s website will be hosted. The prices can be very different. Keep in mind that many of them don’t work in Spanish, but in their native language, so if the cheapest one is in the USA and you don’t speak English, it may not be your best option.

I recommend Webempresa as a hosting. They attend in Spanish, 24 hours service, they are super fast in solving any problem (505 errors, 404 errors, etc..) and they have a blog full of useful information. Similarly, if you want to look at other options, I leave you this article of the best web hosting so you can compare them and choose the one you like.

5. Create a website that is irresistible to your client

Your website will be your hub of operations, it’s like the CIA or FBI offices. You will measure behaviors, test strategies, be a useful information point for your potential customers.

The visual aspect and web usability are two fundamental points for the client to be interested in your proposal. There is a whole world of plugins that can help you do this if you work with WordPress. Some, like Visual Composer, have been a turning point in web design. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read this Visual Composer tutorial by Ernesto G. Bustamante and you will know what I mean.

A website has to be visually attractive and, at the same time, it has to have a clear and concise navigation. When you have it done, ask someone you know to browse it and then ask them if they found it easy.

In our face-to-face WordPress course, we teach you how to create web pages that comply with everything I have mentioned in this section, we also help you choose your domain and the best hosting for you to host your page.

6. Build a personal brand and powerful branding

Branding mainly covers issues such as logos, design, corporate colours, etc. This should not only be incorporated into your website, but also into your cards, documents or premises. Having colors that identify us to the customer at a glance or a logo that is engraved in memory, helps us position ourselves against the competition.

There are many tools to design your logo in a simple way, although if you want a more professional design, you can take an online course in graphic design. In this way, you will be able to develop all the necessary creativity for your company.

With the personal brand the same thing happens, your presence in social networks must be in line with the type of business you have. A company that is dedicated to construction cannot use the same tone in its communication as one that is dedicated to children’s parties. In both cases, it is important to differentiate yourself with your personal brand, since what we transmit to the client can be the trigger to generate a sale of service or product.

7. Think about your Human Resources

If you are going to hire workers you must be up to date in the aspects that concern the selection of personnel and job interviews, under the business side.

Hiring personnel for a company has changed a lot in the last few years. Social networks and blogs have become an in vivo resume of our skills and interests. Not only Linkedin can be effective in this field, if you are looking for a designer or a decorator for your business, you may find that they have a portfolio on a website or a Facebook page.

Searching in Social Networks through hashtags, graph search or similar, can quickly bring us closer to the worker profile we are looking for to complete our business.

8. Customer service

Social networks are a mirror that reflects our experience as a customer. There are many compliments to certain businesses, but there are also many complaints.

Monitor what’s being said about your business on Social Networks and, if there’s a complaint, respond in a professional manner and try to resolve the issue. It doesn’t matter that you don’t have a website or online presence, the customer will use this channel to give their opinion.

9. Manage your customer database

Even if your company is offline, don’t think you should minimize the importance of getting a database of your customers. It is very important for your business strategy to have a good management of your contacts.

Many businesses or companies ask their customers for their email addresses in order to send them offers or discounts. Email Marketing works… if it is well done, so it is important to use newsletters that are effective. When a customer gives you their email, it means that they are interested in establishing a communication with your company. The communication must make your customer feel valued.

It is not about sending a newsletter every time you update your website, it is more than that.  You can let them know about upcoming events in your store, offer them offers only for those who have made a previous purchase, or even recommend a new service you have implemented in the company.

Recommendation: try to have a contact base by email before even creating your company. You may cause expectation and announce your launch. To do this, use Mailchimp or Mailrelay, two email marketing platforms. And, on the other hand, it is important that you try out different types of newsletters to see which one works best with your clients.

10. Take into account the training

You must bear in mind the knowledge and skills required by your workers in your sector, to give them the necessary facilities to renew and update their knowledge in the areas that demand it, as well as their training in new areas that serve to enhance the development of both parties. Find out about the different options for financing training courses, the Tripartite Foundation offers several free courses for employees and companies, perhaps one of them fits your sector.

In addition, online courses can also be subsidized, so they can be a good solution if you do not have much time to devote to your training.
